Ted was one of my very best friends in junior and senior high school.  He was one of the funniest people I've ever known.  He was always able to make us all belly laugh at some of his antics.  Gary Sirmon

We sat with  Ted at the 20th class reunion.  You were a good friend Ted.

I guess it was after our 20th that Ted and I began chatting (by phone in those days) once in awhile.  I always admired his parents, and it came naturally, therefore, to ask how they were.  I asked about his dad.  With characteristic Johnny Carson smooth, he said, "Oh well, he'd be okay, if we could just keep him outa the trees."

I was puzzled.  He explained.  His dad (who probably weighed 120 lbs. with 6% body fat) had had quadruple bypass surgery.  The doctors discharged him home, I am rather sure with some misgivings.  They had explained the rules of rehab to him.  Anyway, and predictably, they found him one afternoon sprawled on the lawn beneath a cherry tree he had scrambled up to trim or pick.

They are a truly great family, and if I ever write The Great American Novel, they'll be there - - - among the pages and in the trees.

I miss your humor and intelligence, Ted.                                         Jim Mirabell
